Review: Ghost of a Tale

Ghost of a Tale, an indie game that’s been in development for the past 5 years has finally released. My original interest in this game was contained almost completely within the animations and magnitude of character that comes with it.

This game is so many types of gorgeous.

My initial impressions of the game were not good. Many technical difficulties with setting up controls, and getting my mid-grade computer to be able to play it and stream a the same time almost had me returning the game. I am so glad that I put in the time to troubleshoot though.

The gameplay never looked that great to me. So far a lot of bad review right? Wrong. This game is excellent in many ways. It’s simple, but the brilliance comes out in the level design, and the incredible amount of story and content. The environments are beautifully detailed.

I’m not one for story in games much. This one felt different. Every time I would find myself trying to escape danger, I would stumble upon 2 or 3 entirely new quest lines and story elements. It’s so well laid out and written that it’s difficult to do it justice via review.

What I intended to “try for a bit”, turned into a 4 hour first impression that had me completely engrossed in a fairy tale. All I can say is if you want something genuinely interesting to explore that isn’t focused entirely on combat, this is an excellent choice for the cost.
